Hello everybody!
I live in Mexico and love old cars, and I am not afraid of working on them. I have wanted a O19 for a long time, and a couple of months ago I bought a 1962 O319 which has been in Mexico I believe since new, owned by a government agency. It is a deluxe version with the 10 tall seats and it still has it's original upholstery, but it needs paint and several other things. When I got it, it was about to be painted and the mouldings were removed, but I have most of the trim. I already located with the help of a Belgian friend some of the missing parts, like emblems and lights, but still have some more parts that I need to find.
First thing I would love to ask is for help to find out what I have. My main doubt is that it has a 6 cylinder 180 engine, like the ones on 220S from the era. Could it have been done this way from factory? I understand they always came with 4 cylinder gas or diesel engines, but in my case the 6 cylinder looks like it was built that way. I cannot see any adaptation to chassis or body to receive the larger engine and everything seems to fit fine.
Unfortunately I have no original papers, but the papers from the government agency that owned it and auctioned it in 1985. In those papers, and everything I have since then, the O319 is listed with the 6 cylinder engine it currently has.
The data of my O319 is as follows:
• Serie: 31907110001087
• Engine: 1809247505147
Can anybody tell me from these numbers what type of O319 I have and if the engine could have been originally with the bus?
Thanks!
Victor

Just a thought. Have you looked into when the engine was built? 180-924.
If the engine was built in 1962 then its a possible maybe. Also did unimog 404's have this engine also?
Any pictures to add to your story?

I found some information.
319.071 Bus with roof edge windows, 3 doors, 10 seats.
Engine. M121 B iii and M121 B iii b, and M121 B vii. (vii example are Roman numerals).
319.071(10) 10 is left hand drive.
Which leaves 001087 as your unique chassis number.

Brad,
Thanks for your response.
No, I haven't checked on my engine's production date. How can I do that? Number is 1809247505147
As for my bus, it has 2 doors only and no windows up in the roof.
I am attaching a few pictures
Thanks!

Just quickly.
Thats the joy of old part numbers. It only gives you part of the story.
I guess the rear compartment would be classified as a door?
It looks like 319 071 10 00005 is another chassis number
Have you look for the stamped vin number on the chassis as of yet?
50123 and 70197 would be for example the seat covering part number or carpet colour.
There is a sample catalogue for the O319 with these part numbers in it. Maybe someone on the forum has it?
I have one of these sample catalogues but I cant find it at the moment. I have included a picture from the net of what the sample look like.

Picture from the 1962 O319 reference book.
Your engine. 180 924 75 05147.
My understanding is.......
180 - engine type
924 - engine model.
75 - engine made in 1957. It is reversed?? I have no reason why MB do this.
05147 - is number 5147 on the production line for that engine.

Thank you Brad! That engine number came from the official paperwork of the car. I will have to check it physically on the engine, but I believe it should be correct.
And type 319.071... yes, if the trunk is considered the third door, it is a 3 door, it does have 10 deluxe seats, but no windows up on the roof I will have to check if they were ever covered. I hope so, as it would be much more attractive with them.
Thanks for your help,
victor

Hi Victor
Is it possible for you to upload some pictures how the m180 engine is mounted , i have a m180 engine i would like to fit to my O319, i think the engine is sitting on 2 rails next to the engine where the M180 engine brackets are bolted on, i would love to see the correct way
Thanks,
Volker from South-Africa
