Hey all,
I'm curious, has anyone put a 240d(om616) in their L319?
If so, was there anything particularly troublesome when it came to hooking up the
wires, and transmission? I have a 4 speed manual, shifter is on the steering column.
Thanks,
j

Re: 240d engine(om616)
Hi Jay,
I am in a similar position to you, wanting to put an om 616 in my 319. There are a few people on the forum who have done this change over.
People seem to say the 616 is a good swap, but you need to use the long ratio gearbox from the 207 or 307 trucks. I think this box was also fitted to petrol 210/310s. Without the long box you will only be doing 50mph tops with the new low revving deisel engine.
I am thinking of just cutting a hole in the floor for the new stick shift and saying bye to the old column one.
615 engines (2.2lt) and early 616 (I think) have oil filter at front of engine. This will fit in the space available. Most 616 engines have the oil filter at the back which will foul the chassis, so you need to blank off the original and re-route to another place. There are some good photos of this on the website. Look up gearbox or getriebe. The gearbox is the 711 113.
Hope this helps, good luck, I am just embarking on my swap. Will let you know how it goes. It's taken a long time to get to this stage!

Re: 240d engine(om616)
hello jamie....
how are you doing?
still not fitted the om616?
you are right about the gearbox
you really need the overdrive version 5 speed
if you check the website with 711 113 (suchen = search)
then you will find lot of info
the gearbox you need is the
711 113
G1/18-5/4,7
were mounted in the 208-310D and 408-410D from 1988 and later
G____________Getriebe (gears)
1____________Baureihe
/____________ /
18___________ Eingangsdrehmoment (180 Nm)
5____________Anzahl der Vorwärtsgänge
/ ____________/
6,15 bzw 4,7___Übersetzung 1.Gang
Die Getriebe haben folgende Übersetzungen
711.113
G1/18-5/4,7
1.Gang..4,695
2.Gang..2,401
3.Gang..1,436
4.Gang..1.000
5.Gang..0,806
R.Gang..4,078
at the photographs you can see some adjustments that had to be made
to fix the gearbox to the subframe...and to make space for the gearbox under the chassis
succes!

Re: 240d engine(om616)
hi
i have a 240d engine in my beloved 319er.
it s great engine.you can pass it with the original guire box and still have the guires on the wheel drive.
there is then not much place for reparations but it works very fine.
and it s quite fast! up to 90 km/h
wish you get it quick ready.
the only problem you might get ist with the hummm kupplung?(well i don t know the english word for it)
the place where you change the guires..the opening to move the guires might be to short, but you can make it a bit langer then it works well.
have fun! see you on the road.
