the number i guess you are looking for is...pfff how to explain...open the motorcab on the frontside....put it somewhere safe
then take a look on the left of the radiator/cooler...find the lying chassis beam/bar close to the dynamo....and there you will find a number consisting of
14 digits
succes!

Look for this
Thread on the nice foto behind the horn, there it is. If it does not help try "Fahrgestellnummer" under Textwindow "Suche" so you will find other pictures with this problem.

Maybe the 319's reassembled outside Germany do not have a complete vin for what ever reason.
Here is my Australian MB plate details.
L319D/R319.000. I guess that R is for right hand drive.
The chassis number comprises of 7 numbers.
Year of manufacture is 1959
Hope that hepls in some way
Cheers,
Brad

I also remember a few years ago when i was cleaning 50+ years of dirt and grime of the chassis, that I came across serveral parts and labels with 1958 stamped on them.(in those days shipping to Australia would of taken 6 months) I will have a look over the weekend if I can refind them again. Is it the original engine? If so, the engine block should be stamped with a date.
Pull her apart and she shall reveal her birth date

the back of the speedo is stamped 1966 so im sure this is the right date but i need proof of the year to register it like a build sheet that maches the vin

I guess you may have to contact MB Spain to see if they still have the records of that chassis number.
Do you have the rego papers that came with the 319?
Here is an example of my build badge that shows the year of manufacture.

I would be trying to get the correct paperwork first before spending anymore money on it. Imagine if you spent a lot of money on restoration etc only to be found out that it was reported stolen may years ago. (worst case scenario)
