Desde Argentina

Beitragvon Christian_ARG » 03.01.2023, 17:24

--- Hello dear friends, lovers of the 319!
My name is Christian, I'm from Córdoba (Argentina). My native language is Spanish but I will leave a translation in English for those who do not understand my language.

I tell you that in May 2022, together with my partner, we acquired a Mercedes Benz O319 from 1961 (Unit belonging to the Argentine Air Force).
We are very happy to be able to restore this beautiful vehicle and turn it into our motorhome.
----

-- Although it already had some furniture inside, we took them all out to start building it to our liking. --

-- At the moment we are covering the interior with wood. We want to change the engine for a Toyota or Nissan and then we will paint it on the outside. --

Hello Christian

Great to see you here and what a wonderful van you have secured for yourselves..

I couldn't help but to notice the floor, it looks like steel chequer plate, will last for a long time. The van is already in a good condition, do you have a long term plan?

best regards
Rob

Hi Rob!
Thank you very much for your comment.
I apologize if my English is not very good.

Yes, that floor is made of steel sheet (here known as melon seed).

In Argentina the Mercedes Benz 319 was never marketed. They were only part of the Air Force fleet of vehicles. They were the ones who put this floor and it is very well installed.

They were also the ones who installed an Indenor XDP 6.90 engine, since it was manufactured at the Military Aircraft Factory and used in a nationally produced vehicle called "Rastrojero - Frontal (M-91)".
Unfortunately, it is an engine that always had problems with the cylinder head because it would overheat and this one is no exception. That's why I want to change it.

We intend to set it up as a motorhome and make a trip through Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador.
Little by little we are putting it together.
